Frequently asked questions.

Do I need to be an EMT to join Beachwood EMS?

Nope! Beachwood EMS provides all training at no charge to our members. Once you become a member, you will complete CPR training in-house. We will then sponsor you through one of our local EMT classes.

How long does it take to become an EMT?

Traditional EMT classes are the equivelent of a college class. They normally run 2 days a week for 15-18 weeks. Some classes have additional weekend requirements.

Do I get paid to be an EMT at Beachwood EMS?

No. Beachwood EMS is comprised 100% of volunteer members. Members volunteer thousands of hours each year to ensure a prompt ambulance response. Although we don’t have any paid positions, we offer an experience like no other.

If you are volunteers, why did I receive a bill for ambulance transport?

In 2017, Beachwood EMS made the decision to begin a cost recovery program. Historically, Beachwood EMS was funded through donations from residents and business. With this program, Beachwood EMS funding will be augmented with revenue generated from this program. This augmentation will allow our agency to purchase new, safer vehicles and equipment, and outfit our members with appropriate safety equipment.
